It hadn't thought of the possibility that a recent version of Calibre might not be compatible with the latest version of Kobo firmware. I must have already had Calibre open and not updated it before updating the Kobo firmware and encountering the problem, even though I had updated Calibre recently. Kovid Goyal thank you - your simple suggestion to update Calibre worked! I am no longer getting that error. But then I found responses in my email! I don't know how to delete the double-up post I posted yesterday? I'm sorry I actually re-posted this question thinking that my post had not been published as I couldn't find it on the forum. Thank you so much everyone for your helpful replies and suggestions. Safe eject, wait for your kobo to update and keep the wifi turned off or it will sync back to 4.31.something, which is da pest and the horror! ĭiscussion of any new Kobo firmware can be found in the Kobo forum at MobileRead. Doing so may require you to perform a factory reset of your Kobo.ĭiscussion of any new Kobo firmware can be found in the Kobo forum at MobileRead. If you are willing to experiment and know how to reset your Kobo to Factory defaults, you can override this check by right clicking the device icon in calibre and selecting "Configure this device" and then the "Attempt to support newer firmware" option. You can still send books to your Kobo with calibre, but deleting books and managing collections is disabled. As calibre does not know about this updated firmware, database editing is disabled, to prevent corruption. Your Kobo is running an updated firmware/database version. WARNING: Failed: Kobo database version unsupported - See details I searched this forum and couldn't find out how to restore the old version of Kobo firmware so I can use Calibre again? But when I next went to connect with Calibre I got the error message below!! So now I can't use Calibre with the updated Kobo firmware. Okay so I'll just try to get used to it, I thought. Seemed like a sensible thing to do, although it didn't enable my device to connect anyway plus it changed the whole display making my Kobo difficult to use. I was having trouble connecting my Kobo to my computer (and fortunately found the solution in one of the other posts here - connect it to a different USB socket) but before that from googling had tried updating the firmware, which I hadn't updated for 5 years. I guess it tried to do an update but the battery died mid update which was causing the issue. How can I undo a Kobo firmware update and restore an old version to my Kobo? Is the Clara HD a good choice for me?ĮDIT: I got it working! I charged it for 2h then did a manual reset and set it up all over again. I would go with Kobo over Kindle since I'm in Canada and I read Kindle doesn't support Overdrive for borrowing books in Canada and that sounds like a really nice feature. If I can't fix it then I was looking into buying the Kobo Clara HD 6" or the Kobo Libra H20 7" but leaning towards the Clara HD as I like the design more. Does anyone know what could be going on and how to fix it? I have no clue what is happening and would love to fix it so I don't need to spend 150-200 dollars on another ereader. I got on the app, finished the whole set up and then it said "Updating" on my ereader and now it's just stuck on a white screen with a dotted line going vertically down the middle that seems to be moving slightly back and forth. I selected my language and then selected computer set up instead of wireless. I plugged it into my computer and it started the set up. I went to sleep without reading and today when I woke up it was on a screen that showed a picture of a laptop a wire leading up to my kobo which I assume means it wanted me to plug it in. So I clicked the reset button and it just kept being stuck on the "Restoring" screen. I've had my Kobo ereader for a couple years and it's been working perfectly fine but last night it wouldn't turn on.
